Phoenix Promotes "No Fur" Policy in Fashion Week Ads
"The only wildlife at SPA is human—no fur coats allowed,"
declares screen star Joaquin Phoenix on a poster that PETA is plastering
all over New York just in time for Fashion Week. The vegan actor wants
style mavens who descend upon Manhattan for the new collections to
know that fur doesn't fly at the city's hottest hangout.
Phoenix's sexy, black-and-white poster (shot by photographer Steven
Klein) could spare SPA patrons the fate of Sean "Puffy"
Combs, who was recently denied entry until he returned his full-length
fur to his limo. (The rapper's date, Jennifer Lopez, sporting faux
fur, was ushered in immediately.)
"People come to my club to feel vital and alive. Having someone
brush up against you with a dead animal kills the mood," says
SPA manager (and longtime PETA member) Steve Lewis, who has directed
his bouncers to turn away all fur-wearing club crawlers—except
for his ever-present dog.
